With Waterboyz It's More Than an Adventure, It's a Lifestyle

By Elisha Neubauer

Waterboyz in Pensacola, a one of a kind shop, is encompassing everything that makes Florida great: surf, skate, skimboard and paddleboard, all under one roof. After many years, and just as many moves, Waterboyz has become a staple in the Emerald Coast's neighborhood. Offering the top brands in the industry, Waterboyz continues to grow and adapt alongside the Florida lifestyle.

The now 10,000 square foot complex got its start in the early 80s- in a single car garage, no less. Started by a group of childhood friends, Waterboyz was launched when a member of the group, Sean Fell, visited the Atlantic Coast and got a feel for shaping boards. After creating custom-shaped boards for the group, Fell began creating them for members of the community. During the holiday season, another member of the group got the idea to begin making t-shirts, and the demand for Waterboyz products quickly took off.

Today, the company is an all-inclusive lifestyle brand. "There is no other shop in the US that encompasses a core surf/skate/skim shop, with in-house production of surfboards and repairs, in-house screen printing production, an indoor skatepark, and an in-house café," states Sean Mullins, Creative Director of Waterboyz. "Our shop is usually described as one of a kind, or a really cool place to eat, shop, and hang."

The in-house café, aptly called the Singe Fin Café, was opened in January of 2015, as a final piece to the puzzle. "We opened the Single Fin Cafe inside our shop mainly to complete the vision of having a complete family friendly and community oriented complex," explains Co-Owner Sean Fell. In accordance with the lifestyle they uphold, the unique eatery serves only fresh healthy fair, such as Boar's Head meats and veggie offerings. "We utilize produce from our own garden right outside," Fell affirms. The café also boasts a selection of organic coffee, craft soda, and craft beer from a local brewery: the Pensacola Bay Brewery.

In addition to retail and in-house café, the lifestyle complex is home to Waterboyz Surfboards, which offers rentals, ding repair, a surf camp over at Pensacola Beach, and an on-site skate camp. The camp is held on Pensacola Beach from 9am to Noon, Monday through Thursday, and is available for anyone aged seven or older. And, if you don't happen to have a surfboard handy, Waterboyz will provide one for you to use during the camp.

"The surf lifestyle is a healthy one," states Fell. "It's a simple life...water, fresh air, outdoors. Good food, enjoying what our planet has to offer." Al of which is exactly what the Waterboyz complex seems to be about. As Fell says, they are "A tight knit community of like-minded individuals who appreciate nature."
