Traditional Tees at Belleview

By Courtney Clark

Clearwater is known for its gorgeous beaches and palm trees. However, there is another eye-catching attraction that has residents talking: the Belleview Biltmore Golf Club. Perhaps better known throughout the years as the Pelican Golf Club, Belleview takes care of its members and welcomes new and experienced golfers alike.

In the early- to mid-1900s, Donald Ross was a famed golfer and golf course designer. In 1925, he brought his skill to Belleview and designed the 6614-yards, par-71 course. Belleview's website indicates part of the reason why Ross was so renowned. Rather than opting for more length, he "preferred to test your accuracy with slightly tighter fairways, water hazards, strategic bunkers, and well-placed trees" that keep golfers interested throughout each hole. For more than eighty years, the course has remained almost the same, save for upgrades due to the times. New management, which took over in 2013, has a simple motto: "Make it the best conditioned golf course anywhere- period."

According to Regional Vice President Zack Vervaecke, renovations include "bunkers with new contours, drainage, and G-angle sand." The greens are now composed of Tiff Eagle Bermuda grass that is well-maintained by a crew that has been given full authority. The idea is to continuously improve Bellview so that it will always be a top-notch course that members love. The golf carts are new, reservations and tee times have moved to electronic services, and the locker rooms have been upgraded, as well.

Overall, Belleview strives to make guests' golfing experience fun. Memberships are perfect for new golfers or veterans, and there are packages and events for each skill level. With a dedication to "Championship Service," the Club offers individual lessons with Assistant Golf Professional Zachary Lomaka as well as golf outings. During an outing, members are sure to be pleased with the quality of service. From taking care of Hole Contests to offering delicious refreshments at a beverage cart or an outdoor grill, the Club has thought out each step. After all day on the greens, guests are invited to relax and recharge with a delicious dinner banquet.

Aside from individual events, Belleview also offers member, public, and outside events during the peak months of December to April. Couples are invited to join the increasingly popular Nine and Dine on Fridays, while the Taste of Belleair (a perfect choice for all food-lovers) is hosted at the Club's facility. The Taste of Belleair supports the Clearwater community by welcoming twenty-eight local food and catering vendors. Around the holidays, Belleview encourages members to get in the spirit with the 12 Holes of Christmas Extravaganza.

Belleview Biltmore is the go-to club for novice and seasoned golfers. With memberships for all skill levels, the Club can be a respite with the family ? or from the family with the Single Memberships. With a beautiful and challenging course grounded in tradition, all golfers will find fun on the greens. As the website assures, "Belleview Biltmore Golf club has the variety to keep their rounds interesting from the first tee to the eighteenth green."
