What to Do in Orlando? Hit The (Tin) Roof!

By Jennilyn Salvador

Dubbed the theme park capital of the world, Orlando is teeming with more than its fair share of rides, costumed characters, and souvenir shops. But if you're more in the mood for music and a mojito than you are Mickey Mouse, check out Tin Roof. Located near the Orlando Eye, locals and visitors alike head to this lively bar for great performances, food, and atmosphere.

"Tin Roof opened its first location in 2002 in Nashville near Music Row. It quickly became a hang for the music industry and a fun spot for the non industry crowd as well. Casual, but fun energetic vibe with a friendly and eclectic crew," President Bob Franklin shares. "Due to a staff that wanted to grow with Tin Roof, we began expanding in 2009 and are now in 10 total states. We are huge fans of musicians and really strive to give them more places to play and hang at as well. They're a big part of the family at the Roof."

Live music performances take center stage. There's a line-up of events almost every day, and it's refreshing to note that the Roof, as it's popularly referred to, gives preference to promising local musicians. "It's good for business and we really enjoy it. It's great when those two items collide!" Franklin enthuses.

If live music gives the Roof heartbeat, its cuisine definitely renders it soul strings. Tin Roof serves what has been coined TennMex. "It's a combo reflecting our Tennessee and Southern roots, combined with a Mexican-American influence," explains Franklin. "Our Orlando menu is referred to as Americana. It's a recognition of the continuing development of the menu and the heritage of its influences." A good example would be the best-selling Hot Chicken Torta, which consists of buttermilk fried chicken rubbed with cayenne and served with ranch potato salad and pickles on a Mexican-style roll.

Tin Roof declares itself a place "Where Everybody is Somebody," and it stays true to that principle. So, if you're in Orlando, check out the local talent, order yourself some TennMex, and enjoy an evening at the eclectic Tin Roof.
