The Yoga Nest Helps Mothers Navigate Pregnancy

By Mike Abelson

Ifat Kent's connection to yoga grew from her pregnancy. Kent found peace practicing yoga with other women while she was pregnant. From there she gave back by providing yoga classes to pregnant women and young mothers.

Those classes eventually grew into The Yoga Nest, which opened in Hollywood, Florida in December of 2017.

"Pregnancy is not the easiest of times," Kent said. "There are so many changes, the visible, of course, but also the internal, which we cannot see and if not shared, nobody would ever know. Women feel more comfortable sharing when they feel safe and free from judgement. I wanted to provide that feeling of a safe space for them."

The studio provides a comprehensive list of services for both prenatal and postnatal women. Yoga classes run 75 minutes and range in cost from $10-140 depending on the class. Doula services are also provided to help mothers with the birthing process from the physical aspect to the emotional and everything in between.

Childbirth education classes help the women get the information they need about what to expect in the hospital, strengthening relationship with their partner, how to stay relaxed during birth and much more.

"The combination of breath and movement along with empowering messages and some challenging poses allow expecting or current mothers feel stronger in both their body and mind," Kent said. "Yoga helps you become more aware of yourself, more forgiving of your faults and more flexible in mind (so when all plans fail, you are able to accept there's always another way). It helps moms. It helps everybody."

The studio also offer family yoga as a way for parents and kids to learn the joy of practicing yoga no matter the age.

"Family yoga is just fun," Kent said. "It allows parents to just have fun with their babies/kids. We all learn and connect better while having fun. It's not so "Zen" but we do infuse the classes with some breathing and mindfulness, which pave the path of yoga and meditation for both parent and child."
