The Royal Golf Experience: Aggressively Priced and Expertly Manicured

By Kelly Church

Just minutes away from America's oldest city, historic St. Augustine, FL, is the Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country Club. With an 18-hole golf course that twists and turns through thriving packs of tall trees and wetlands, the public can enjoy a full day of golfing and end their day with a nice meal at a full bar in the club house. General Manager of the country club, Marc Devany, says the main attraction is the difficulty of the course.

"Our golf course layout is much more difficult than the average layout," Devany says. "We have narrow fairways, many hazards and sloping greens. It is a real test of golf. I like to think we differentiate ourselves from other courses in the area by offering the best value. We offer excellent playing conditions and service for an affordable price."

Devany says Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country Club offers a "$70 experience for only $35." The $35 price is for a weekday golfing experience before noon. For an even better deal, weekday tee times after 3 p.m. cost only $21. The golf club also offers membership programs, so regular golfers can pay one fixed rate and have all the luxuries of a golf club at their fingertips. "Aggressively priced" membership fees include unlimited golf, range balls, discounts at the on-site pro shop and restaurant, and handicap hosting. However, Devany believes that price means nothing if the club isn't offering a great golfing experience.

"The most essential part of our business is golf course conditions and, more specifically, the greens," Devany says. "You can put out any deal you want or drop the rates down to almost free, but if you don't have good conditions with nice greens, people won't come."

Devany says their "well-manicured course" and "beautiful clubhouse" makes Royal St. Augustine's Golf & Country Club a destination for small business outings in the area. The country club is willing to help a group cater their event more specifically to their own unique needs, making it small and low-key or larger, more organized corporate events. Their sports bar in the clubhouse features nine 50" HD televisions, a pool table and, of course, a full bar, making the restaurant an ideal location for people looking to catch a game on TV or host a party.

"We host all kinds of events that are not golf related, from wedding receptions to birthday parties," Devany says.

With the hope of offering a comfortable and casual atmosphere that is welcoming to people of all backgrounds, Royal St. Augustine Golf & Country Club features all the necessities for avid golfers, casual golfers and people looking for an adaptable event venue.
