The Belly Laughs Keep Coming at Jacksonville's Favorite Comic Nightspot

By Pamela Sosnowski

The Comedy Zone has been a Jacksonville staple for several years and an affordable place to see some big name comics compared to larger stages. With a small size and an intimate atmosphere, there isn't a bad seat in the house for viewing the top comics when they come to town. Customers have reported that the club feels like a throwback to the comedy stages of the 1980s.

"The Comedy Zone is one of the few A-rated rooms in Florida and features a variety of acts from fresh faced up and comers to comedy veterans," says Elizabeth Hecht, the club's Director of Sales and Marketing. "We have had some entertainment legends at our club such as Sinbad, Jim Breuer, Marlon Wayans, Drew Carey and more. We even have the iconic comedian George Wallace coming Thanksgiving weekend."

The club is located inside the Ramada Jacksonville Hotel and Conference Center, a detail that many of the comics taking the stage find themselves joking about. But the unusual ambiance makes the venue a draw for many of the guests staying in the hotel, and provides plenty of parking for show attendees. The menu is mostly standard bar fare from the hotel's restaurant such as chicken wings, burgers, and fried mozzarella sticks, but the portions are generous and make a fine addition to an evening of comedy. Beer and wine is also available.

The club also features a Comedy Zone Workshop for amateurs and those new to the world of comedy that long to be on the stage. The eight week long program trains students on how to emcee a comedy show and learn stage mechanics. Participants write their own material and gain tips on delivery of existing jokes. During the program session all students can enjoy shows at the club for free, to get a feel for the format and to learn from the best.

For paying customers, the club occasionally offers specials and discounts on tickets. Most importantly, the staff likes to ensure that everyone has an enjoyable experience. "A comedy show is a truly unique experience that takes the audience on a whirlwind adventure of laugh out loud moments and surprises," says Hecht. "When you visit The Comedy Zone, you are able to enjoy the ultimate night of entertainment with a comedy show, great food and drinks and an evening of top-notch service."
