Taste the Cuisines of the World with Tampa Bay Chef Services

By Marina I. Jokic

For many busy professionals in the Tampa Bay area, home cooking might not be a viable option. Luckily, Tampa Bay Chef Services, a premier gourmet food caterer, has many different choices to satisfy any culinary need. Chef Cristian Feher, owner of TBCS, spends the majority of his time running his business. He is also a professional food writer, which gives him the unique vantage to assess the industry landscape, survey the competition, and top them.

Feher has been a professional chef for over 15 years, but his unofficial training commenced during the course of his childhood in Venezuela. His parents were chefs par excellence, affording Feher the opportunity to travel and experience many different cultures and cuisines. On his travels, he gained exposure to various preparation methods and recipes which would eventually make up the foundation for his own style.

"I was sous chef to my French and Venezuelan grandmothers who, to my good fortune, were great culinary masters in their own rights," Feher said. "They allowed me to take part in preparing all the meals and really sparked my love for food."

During the later years of his childhood, Feher's family moved to Toronto, Canada where he really came of age and cut his teeth as a chef. Graduating from George Brown College in the culinary arts in 2001, Feher was ready to embark on his professional journey. He felt his luck had served him well so far.

"It seems my good fortune did not end there as I immediately secured an apprenticeship under Chef Michael Rosano at the York Downs Country Club where, after two years of hard work, I gained my Canadian Red Seal certification as a chef," he added.

In keeping with Feher's diverse experience and penchant for experimentation, TBCS prepares classically inspired dishes presented in a fresh, innovative way. In addition to the core catering service, TBCS also provides weekly meal packages prepared by the chef, private dinner parties, cooking classes, sushi classes, sushi chef for hire service, and even weight loss meals.

"I was also very fortunate to have worked as the sous chef of a mentor and very dear friend of mine, Italian Master Chef Pasquale Carpino, who taught me that food is art, and art is communication," Feher said. "And in this way, a kitchen is your stage, and your guests are your audience."

Among the most prominent culinary influences in his career come from the cuisines of Europe, South American, the Caribbean, and North America.

"Although cuisines vary widely throughout the world, I came to appreciate that we all share the same values: friendship, love, and enjoyment of what life gives us," he said. "And we all tend to share these things around the dinner table."
