Take your Events to the Seas with Fort Lauderdale's Charter One Yachts

By Elisha Neubauer

Charter One Yachts was launched in 1997 by one man with a passion. Matthew Talchik's love for the sea drove him to new levels as he searched for a venture that would combine his background, hospitality and service industry, with his pastime. It was then that he founded Charter One Yachts, a venture that would indeed blend those factors well.

Nineteen years later, Charter One Yachts is still going strong. While starting out with only one vessel originally, the company has expanded, adding two more to the roster with yet another addition currently under construction. "The Grand Floridian is the newest yacht here in South Florida- we just built her and christened her last March," explains Lauren Talchik, owner. "We also have The Floridian Princess and The Summer Wind. There is another boat being built in the shipyard but not sure on the date of completion."

Clearly, they're a company in high demand. So what makes booking a yacht for an event so popular?

Talchik had some unique insight on the matter. "Being on the water is a great way to see the area from a different point of view," she states. "You have a captured audience with all the sights they will see versus being stuck in a hotel ballroom." Another perk? "We will take care of everything from food, bar, entertainment, décor. All the guests need to do is step on board and set sail."

During the course of our conversation, we just had to know- who was booking these fantastic sea parties? According to Talchik, approximately 80% of their business is booked by corporations who are in town for a meeting or conference and are looking for a unique way to experience Florida in the process. What better way to combine business with pleasure than to set sail on the waterways of the sunshine state? The other 20%, she explained, is generally reserved for weddings, bar/bat mitzvahs, birthdays, retirement parties, commitment ceremonies, fundraisers, gay & lesbian events, family reunions, and the like.

Amenities offered by Charter One currently include fine dining, top shelf drinks and superb entertainment, in addition to knowledgeable and friendly crew members who aim to make your event a success. Event planners are offered by the company to help ease the stress of handling the details, and meeting spaces are available for events and conferences, fully equipped with full media capabilities. As their website says, "Leave the work to us, it's time for you to relax."

With a multitude of docking locations, Charter One Yachts is equally as convenient as it is alluring. They've blossomed over the last decade, turning a one-man dream into a corporate reality. While they've grown, Talchik says they've kept one dream alive: the original mission statement. "The mission of Charter One's management and staff; from the reservation agents, and event planners, to the captain, chef, and crew; is to deliver premier cruise experience, and exceptional service, focused on providing guests a distinctive, and memorable experience."
