Shorty's Bar-B-Q Doesn't Fall Short of 'Heavenly' Food

By Kelly Church

With a menu filled with saucy, hickory-smoked, southern-style food, Shorty's Bar-B-Q Restaurant has won more than a few awards in its 65 years of business. Named after owner and Georgia native E.L. "Shorty" Allen, Shorty's Bar-B-Q's original location featured family-style picnic tables and homemade barbeque sauce to please the masses. After a fire burned it down, Shorty rebuilt in 1974 in the same spot - a location that still stands today.

"We're known for just about everything," says Bayley Davis, Marketing and Sales Representative for Shorty's Bar-B-Q. "You may think it's all about the ribs, but the chicken, pulled pork, brisket and burgers are all very popular items. That's just the meats - BBQ beans, coleslaw, corn on the cob- it's hard to pick. Everyone has a favorite!"

The Shorty's Bar-B-Q menu has 11 barbeque plate specialties, which include barbequed meat with french fries or rice, coleslaw and bread. Diners can choose from a meat menu of baby back ribs, spare ribs, beef franks, chicken, brisket, pork and skirt steak. The secret to doing it right? "Using the finest meats available and adding our 65 year old recipes and smoked over smoldering hickory by chefs that have over a hundred years of combined experience," says CEO Mark Vasturo.

The menu features a long list of individual and family orders of their various rubbed meats and an even longer list of side orders to customize each meal. Shorty's Bar-B-Q also caters events for any size party!

Shorty's Bar-B-Q has won many "Best Barbeque" titles over the years, including from Channel 7 News and Best of Citysearch in 2004 and 2006. The ZAGAT Survey calls Shorty's Bar-B-Q "heavenly" with "thick, smoky sweet sauce and butter-drenched corn on the cob." With praise like that, it's no wonder that Shorty's Bar-B-Q has become a southern Florida favorite.
