Removal of Storm Damaged Trees: An Interview with Paul Karas of 1-888-Cleanup

By Paul Karas

Tell us a little bit about your company and its foundation.

1-888-CleanUp began as a one man operation with a truck, removing debris and unwanted items throughout Central Florida. But I had a bigger vision for this company, and as our customer base expanded, I was able to hire employees and expand our services. In 2008, my son, Alex, joined the company, and he's been working alongside me ever since.

Today, through the cross-utilization of 1-888-CleanUp's skilled crew and equipment, the family-owned company is able to keep overhead low and costs down, passing the savings on to you.

What are a few weather factors that can damage the trees surrounding your home?

Florida has a great number of weather factors that can cause damage to your landscaping including, heavy winds which can cause broken/damaged limbs to break and fall as well as trees going over because of loose soil, heavy rains can cause rot, lightning storms can also cause damaged limbs to break off. Drought stress can cause damage to your trees as well, causing loss of leaves. This may also be a problem when we have extremely high temperatures.

If you could, please list the steps of the tree removal process:

  • Call for a Free estimate, then meet with our estimator.
  • Receive email or handwritten proposal as well as our insurance information.
  • Sign contract and setup appointment to do the work
  • Sit back and watch us remove the brush, lowering the larger pieces with rope, then onto the limbs, finally piece by piece of the trunk. If you opted for stump grinding: once all of the pieces of tree are picked up by our grapple truck we then unload our stump grinder and grind that stump below ground level, pick up the chips (these can be distributed as mulch if you wish) and haul away all the debris, Blow off the property.
  • Customer then pays the invoice when the job is complete and you are satisfied

Why would you recommend the clean-up process take place sooner rather than later?

Any loose or broken limbs that are laying around can cause damage or injury. If another storm comes along they can become flying debris, or even something as simple as falling at the wrong time, when someone or something is underneath of it.

What advice do you have for the homeowner during this process?

This covers you, as well as the workers, in case of any damage or injury to the property. Make sure the company is registered with the state of Florida at sunbiz.org. This helps to determine that the company is reputable.

What's the best way for people to get in contact with you?
