Parking Spaces in Paradise at Jacksonville's Premier RV Resort

By David Boegaard

Flamingo Lake RV Resort is the premier RV camping spot for North Florida and Southern Georgia. Covering the entire Flamingo Lake, the resort offers full hook-up sites, yurts and cabins as well as innumerable opportunities for swimming, boating, and other forms of recreation.

Flamingo Lake RV Resort opened in 1988 purely as a campground. Over the last 27 years, the Flamingo Resort has expanded to encompass nearly the entire circumference of Flamingo Lake. Gone are the days when a person can camp in a tent. Today Flamingo Lake RV Resort offers more than 250 full hook-up sites for luxurious RV camping, and a handful of yurts and cabins for a more primitive experience. All accompanied by a huge variety of recreation spaces.

RV camping has become an increasingly popular form of recreation throughout the United States. Not only does RV camping save a great deal of money for people who enjoy regular travel, but they allow for many of the beauties of traditional tent camping with all the comforts of home. Ken Loyd, Director of Marketing at Flamingo Lake RV Resort believes that there are a variety of reasons why RVs have taken off in recent years, including an improving economy and a relaxation of regulations on RV purchases.

For people accustomed to a hotel experience, RV camping can be eye-opening. At Flamingo Lake, RV campers sleep in their own comfortable beds and use their own bathrooms, have cable and Wi-fi connections, and save money in the process. But the best part is the connection with a community of fellow RV campers and with nature. "You actually get to meet your neighbors and have interaction with them unlike when staying at a hotel," says Loyd. "Best of all, you are outdoors enjoying nature."

But Flamingo Lake is not any old RV camping site. Guests camp around a 17 acres, spring-fed lake with a lovely beach, access to a pool, and nice walking spaces. They even open the park up to non-resident visitors during the days, giving the park an unusual community feeling. "We offer a great deal of amenities such as our Sunrise Café that is open 7 days a week and delivers to your site, we have several different options when it comes to water activities on our 17 acre spring fed lake such as Fun Boats, Kayaks, Paddle Boats, our Flamingo Lagoon Water Attraction & more," notes Loyd." And, of course, there are the necessaries like the laundry-mat.

For kids, the options are even more extensive, suggests Loyd. "We have a swimming pool, a bounce pillow for the kids, a fully stocked general store and we also offer live music every Saturday night. We have kids activities on the weekends and a wide variety of events over the course of a season."

For guests who forgot their RV, or who didn't feel like bringing it along, Flamingo Lake RV Resort offers a variety of yurts and cabins. These grant many of the amenities of home while placing guests a little closer to nature.

If guests feel like having more of a festival experience, Flamingo Lake offers a variety of events and benefits throughout the year. There's the Motorcycle Poker Run to help the Mothers of America's Fallen Soldiers, the Spring Fling, and the Summer Splash, a huge event involving a cardboard boat race. The Smokin Flamingo BBQ and Music Festival is the biggest of the year, says Loyd. "That event is our main event and includes over 50 professional BBQ Competitors going for over $15,000 in prize money."

The Northern Florida or Southern Georgia area is lucky to have such a wonderful spot to relax, experience a little nature and meet some wonderful people.
