Om Beats Yoga Studio Believes Yoga can be the Change the World Needs

By Elisha Neubauer

Yoga has been a growing trend over the last several years, but even with the influx in studios, there are still those who are creating innovative, new ways to celebrate this practice. Om Beats Yoga Studio in Miami, Florida is one such studio.

The studio considers itself to be a cozy, yoga studio boutique with a personalized focus on growing and uniting their community. "Our practice differs from other studios because we are Yoga, we apply the yogic principles maintaining the essence of traditional yoga and the sacred space of it all, while having modern styles and technology of science in it WE offer all styles in one space from restorative, yin yoga to hot power vinyasa classes, from prenatal to mommy and me classes," says Claudia Bustillos, Owner of Om Beats Yoga Studio. "We stand to be a community base, having yoga for everybody and any 'body.'"

According to Bustillos, yoga is one of the best workouts available. "Besides the challenging transitions, sweating through a vinyasa flow and getting stronger thru asanas (postures), yoga brings you to the present moment and gives you the power of a flowing meditation practice, where you will feel released, relaxed and detoxed," she claims. "Yoga shreds us from the outside world to go within."

In addition to the physical perks offered by the practice, Bustillos wants you to be aware of the mental benefits that you won't receive from any other physical practice. "Meditation is the best medication anyone should have, calming the mind to be present, to be in silence, to tamed the mind and the drunken monkey in our head that never stops," she says. "It doesn't mean it will quiet, it means it will be tamed -- bringing focus and attention."

As sacred text Hatha Yoga Pradipika 11.2 says, "Respiration being disturbed, the mind becomes disturbed. By restraining respiration, the Yogî gets steadiness of mind, when respiration is stable or unstable so will be the mind and so will be the yogi."

According to Svatmarama, "When the breath wanders the mind is unsteady."

As Bustillos (and the studio) likes to say, a healthy mind leads to a healthy bodies and a healthy life. "The philosophy of yoga is something to read and study and bring into your lifestyle ," explains Bustillos. "It is something to add on to become a better human being and that can only mean a better humanity." No matter your religion, culture or ethnicity yoga will make you a better human.

In an effort to encourage the practice, the studio also offers 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training to help deepen the practice and the knowledge of Yoga. "Knowledge is power," affirms Bustillos.
