For those who have outgrown the home office and the local Starbucks as workspaces, there's coworking - office space shared by people who work for different companies. MiamiShared takes coworking to the next level, going beyond shared office space to promoting networking and the growing "tech ecosystem" in downtown Miami. At its most basic, it is a 21st century workspace, the product of a creative blurring of boundaries between office, cafe and home.
Ariel Lee, Social Media/Client Service Specialist at MiamiShared feels that coworking is a growing trend because "More and more people are becoming entrepreneurs and are being inspired to start something new. Many new businesses are created daily and there are serious creative forces driving them. Co-working spaces allow for this type of spontaneous, less restrictive model, where individuals can exercise their creativity and manage their business their way. They love the ability to come to work and not have to worry about the overhead fees of having their own office space. At MiamiShared, everything is provided for members, from coffee and tea to all the copy/fax/printing supplies they may require."
MiamiShared offers flexible and affordable office space, for all kinds of companies from start-ups to established businesses, in a new luxury high-rise in downtown Miami. Spaces can be rented for a day, week, month or longer. Month-to-month rentals are suitable for start-ups that don't want to get locked into long-term leases. Current members at MiamiShared include tech startups, web designers, developers/programmers, creative professionals, digital marketing agencies, new media/social media consultants, non-profits, lawyers, and small business owners.
There are different levels of membership available, some of which offer dedicated desks and private offices. Lee says that "We have members who started at the most basic membership plan and over time have upgraded to the highest membership option because their business has grown over the years. In addition to MiamiShared, we offer DaskLux Executive Luxury Office Suites, which we recently launched. DaskLux is located within the same building as MiamiShared, with the intent being for our current members to move into this lavish space as their business continues to grow. Of course, DaskLux is open to the public to lease as well." MiamiShared also hosts virtual offices.
But shared space is only the beginning, says Lee: "We are more than just a co-working space, though; we are a community. Co-working also allows for great networking possibilities. It is a great incentive for members to share ideas and products with other like-minded individuals, especially with the convenience of not having to go outside the office."
MiamiShared hosts talks, presentations and workshops that are of interest to members. For example, in October, Tycoon Guru, a personal development company, held a "Marketing de Experiencias" event. Lee adds: "At MiamiShared we host various events, be they our own community happenings (we just recently had an amazing Thanksgiving potluck, for instance) or meetups, seminars and workshops, such as those by companies like Toastmaster and MasterMind2020. These events add more value to our memberships, as our clients can learn valuable skills or enjoy even more networking opportunities."
