Gug Underwater Lets You Bring the Ocean to Your Living Room

By Elisha Neubauer

Fort Lauderdale is a beach town. It has a focus, a connection, to the ocean unlike other coastal towns. The tourists and residents alike flock to the ocean, walking the beaches and admiring the views on a regular basis. It is for this very reason that Gug Underwater selected the area for its own venue, an art gallery exclusively featuring the work of renowned underwater photographer, Chris Gug.

Gug himself lives in the Fort Lauderdale area, which means a large selection of the images featured at Gug Underwater include shots taken right in their own backyard. While many of Fort Lauderdale's reefs have danced across Gug's lens, his portfolio does include photographs taken in over 40 countries. Each and every photograph, regardless of location, is vibrant and full of life, begging to be displayed.

The Gug Underwater venue is a custom design center. This means that each Gug photograph can be available in a wide range of sizes, materials, and framing options, tailoring it to your own tastes. "When it comes to sizing, we specialize in big", says Suzanne Bushnell, Gallery Manager. "Very big!"

In fact, many of the photographs are available up to a dominating 250". Of course, the gallery does assist the customer in choosing the best size and style for their own space. They utilize a tool called the Virtual Installation which allows them to truly analyze the customer's space, furniture, and color schemes.

Each client works with a design staff member, who is capable of making recommendations based on the design of the client's home or office, in order to truly make the best of the space and ensure that the piece blends well with its final location.

"We are not in the business of selling art, but rather in helping to bring the ocean into our clients' homes in an elegant manner that completes the design concept of a room," states Bushnell. The gallery is located in the Galleria Mall, directly across from Neiman Marcus and is open from 10am to 9pm Monday through Saturday and noon to 6pm on Sundays.
