Great Value and Friendly Staff Make St. Johns Golf and Country Club A Favorite Among Golfers

By Pamela Sosnowski

Like a lot of American golf facilities, St. John's Golf and Country Club has a scenic course, a driving range, restaurant, and pro shop. What it doesn't have is a stuffy attitude or extremely high cost.

"St. Johns Golf and Country Club is known for its consistent 'tour quality' course conditions and lightning fast greens," says General Manager Ryan Roberts. "We pride ourselves in being able to deliver value to our members and guests with our great conditions and service that we feel is similar to a private facility or resort course, without breaking the bank."

The 18-hole course offers "just the right amount of challenge for novice and avid golf pros alike" according to the club's website. Wind conditions can quickly change the dynamics of a game, and the course is a favorite among players, having been rated the 5th best on GolfNow.com via ratings from Golf Advisor. Online reviewers on GolfAdvisor.com routinely give the course five stars and note the excellent service, friendly staff, and fair prices.

The country club also offers a unique mode of transportation to players to help them navigate its course: the GolfBoard. It combines the mechanics and looks of a skateboard, surfboard, snowboard and golf cart and can easily carry a player and their bag. After filling out an online waiver and receiving a quick training session, players can be riding one within minutes and control the GolfBoard by shifting their weight from side to side.

The club provides an impressive learning center and practice facility for players to learn the basics of the game or improve their skills. The center offers a 10,000 square foot putting green, a chipping green, a double-sided driving range, and practice bunkers. Disabled golfers are encouraged to visit the club, and accommodations can be made for them ahead of time to help them enjoy a game.

Of course, there's more to do at a country club then hit the links. St. John's Golf and Country Club offers a full service restaurant, The Grille Room, which overlooks the 9th and 18th greens, making the facility ideal for weddings, banquets, and other special events. Membership also provides plenty of perks. "We have a strong membership base in our market," says Roberts. "Members of our facility enjoy a variety of weekly games and monthly tournaments, discounts in the Grille Room and pro shop, range ball discounts, preferred guest rates, and (more)."

Roberts credits the club's staff as the key to its success. "The most important aspect of running a successful operation is our team," he explains. "You must have a team that is dedicated to treating each and every guest to 'a fun and enjoyable experience' no matter what their job is."
