Exploring the Winter and Spring Editions of The Old Town Art Show

By Kelly Church

Holiday Art Shows presents a duo of juried art shows in the Nation's Oldest City, Saint Augustine FL. The shows, called the Old Town Art Shows, feature all mediums of art and fine craft and are held annually, Palm Sunday Weekend and the weekend after Christmas. Artists are selected to represent a variety of categories: fiber art, jewelry, glass, painting, photography, wood and even food, just to name a few. Each artist featured at Holiday Art Shows must create a selection of original work to present.

"Our shows are unique as all artists must create the body of work they are offering for sale," Show Director Lynn Wettach says. "They must go through a jury process before being accepted to participate. As part of the application process, artists submit photographs of their work and display, which a panel of fellow artists (the jury members) review. Each artist is carefully selected with only the best work being accepted in each category."

Each patron gets the opportunity to meet the artist themselves, learning about each artists' process and history behind the work. Wettach says the Holiday Art Shows looks for artists from all over the country, not just the southeast. The variety of work and artists is what helps the Old Town Art Shows stand buy their claim that "buying American" can be very easy. With prices ranging from both ends of the spectrum, Holiday Art Shows is for all admirers of art.

"[Holiday Art Shows allows] accomplished artists an opportunity to show and sell their work to a responsive and buying public who appreciate the time and effort taken to create the body of work," Wettach says. "And to offer Northeast Florida residents and visitors a quality, fine art and fine craft show where they can meet and greet the creator of the artwork [is part of the reason why we're here]."

The Old Town Art Shows winter show was held the first weekend of the new year. The next show will be in the spring, on Palm Sunday weekend: March 19-20, 2016.
