Cycle Sport Concepts (CSC) Tampa is a specialty store that provides high performance equipment and clothing. The atmosphere is deliberately non-intimidating and the friendly staff help bikers at all experience and fitness levels find the perfect bike for them. For really serious bikers, there's the Body Geometry Fit which maximizes power, endurance, and comfort. The five-stage fit session assesses individual fitness levels and riding style and then customizes bike position and equipment for the best possible cycling experience.
Frank Morelli, General Manager/ Chief Executive High-Fiver, explains that the Body Geometry Fit Integration Technology (BG FIT) "fits" the bike to the rider by making adjustments to the handlebars, shoes, saddle and cleat positions: "Imagine buying a bike like buying a suit off the rack, and a body Geometry fit is like getting that suit tailored. Our Body Geometry Fit Specialist will administer a comprehensive 18-step process to determine the flexibility and dimensions of your body.
Then, our Fit Specialist will visually assess your position on the bike while you ride, using Specialized motion range sensing cameras and digital marking tools. Finally, the fitting: during this 15-step process, the Fit Specialist will personalize your bike position and equipment choice. In the end, saddle selection and position, shoes, shoe footbeds, cleat position, and handlebar position are all optimized to your body."
Developed at the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine, BG FIT has the goal of helping cyclists ride comfortably, faster, and for longer time periods, and at the same time reducing the risk of injury. The fitting process is only offered by speciality stores like CSC. Staff undergo specialized training in the process, says Morelli: "The process is very specialized; our fitters go to California once a year for certification."
Cycling is becoming increasingly popular in the Tampa Bay Area. Morelli says that government funding for building infrastructure goes a long way in popularizing the sport. CSC has just received funding for raising awareness and building bike paths and trails in the area. Of all the bike paths near the shop, the staff favorite is the Courtney Campbell Pedestrian Causeway.
The new 10 mile pedestrian-only bridge connects Tampa to Clearwater. It runs along one of Florida's great scenic highways, and cyclists, walkers and joggers can see dolphins and sandpipers from the walkway. Morelli feels that it offers a great workout for cyclists and is an easy and stress free way to cross the bay from Tampa to Clearwater.
CSC plays an active part in the local cycling community, with regular Friday morning rides that end with a cup of coffee at Buddy Brew Coffee. The shop offers service and support for all bikes bought there, and also for cyclists in local championships and rides, keeping their bikes in top condition. Continuing its commitment to fitness and health by way of cycling, CSC supports local charities like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay with the Bike Build Challenge.
