ConservArt is Boca Raton's Go-To for Art Preservation and Restoration

By Kelly Church

In Boca Raton, FL, there's a special business just for lovers of art that specializes in more than just quality framing. ConservArt provides works to provide painting restoration, preservation and framing services. Chief Conservator George Schwartz spends his days eyeing other people's artistic property, often for museums, galleries, art dealers and historical societies.

"We are a unique resource with 50-plus years of experience in the ethical treatment and handling of art and collectibles," Schwartz says. "[I am] a peer reviewed Professional Associate of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistc Works and Chair Emeritus of the Conservators in Private Practice subgroup."

Schwartz's position includes paintings, works of art on paper, objects, documents, photography, and different types of medium including glass, bone and ivory, stone, metal and ceramics. Each of these pieces comes to Schwartz at ConservArt in a different state, and it's Schwartz's job to analyze the piece for preservation and insurance purposes.

"An art object possessed many different kinds of value beyond the market dollar value," Schwartz says. "Historic value, [documentation] value, educational value, decorative value, sentimental value, collectible value are but some of these values represented by an object. When they become damaged, our main aim is the preservation of the artifacts we treat and unselfishly advocate for their survival and benefit."

The company handles insurance claims for fire, water, transit, mold and soot, among other damages. The team reacts to damage quickly and with expertise to maintain the integrity of the work of art. Schwartz insists that while many companies can assist with similar services as ConservArt, there aren't any that provide the broad range of services that ConservArt does, specializing in treating damaged art and framing it for preservation.
