Cakes By Ron: Where Hard Work Is Covered In Frosting

At Cakes By Ron, the passion that goes into each and every dessert item is palpable. Crafting à la mode designs with the right ingredients, owner Ron Zammit unites the moist, scrumptious flavors everyone craves on their most special days of all. Zammit was not always so interested in designing cakes, falling into the industry rather by chance.

"I first started making cakes as a hobby. I was a shoe cobbler by trade, I wasn't working that many hours a day, and I wanted to keep my hands busy," Zammit said. "I liked the handcrafted flowers on the cake, so I took a class, and since I was good at it I started teaching the class after a month or so."

Cakes By Ron opened its doors for business in Sarasota, Florida in February 1987. For the past 30 years, Zammit has been cultivating his craft through decorating his own unique cakes. Unlike many bakers in Florida, Zammit takes pride in making all of his own flowers and decorations by hand.

As a cake decorator, Zammit recognizes his unlimited opportunity to pull stuff out of a box and use it on a cake. Zammit believes that cake design and decoration is a dying art and has stalwartly dedicated his business Cakes By Ron to preserving this beloved industry as long as he can.

"Our team here at Cakes By Ron works until the job is done," Zammit said. "We don't cut corners or try to rush the process, and that is why I think our cakes stand out."

Over the years, Cakes By Ron has received countless strange requests for cake designs. Thankfully, Zammit can fulfill most of these requests, designing one of a kind cakes that linger on the memory over the span of a lifetime.

"We have made cars, babies, dogs, and dinosaurs," Zammit said. "The most unique cake we have ever made is a full size grand piano!"

The flavors to choose from among Cakes By Ron's vast selection are endless. From the classic Bavarian cream to the mouthwatering Lemon Chiffon, all the way down to the tantalizing Peanut Butter Cup, Zammit is able to meet the needs of even the most refined palates.

"The coconut raspberry cupcake is my ultimate favorite," Zammit said. "It's sweet, tart, filled, gooey, and everything else desired in a cupcake!"

Not only are the cakes produced at Cakes By Ron the most delicious in town, but Zammit and his talented crew are incredibly flexible and accommodating, sometimes producing enormous cakes with only a few days' notice. At Cakes By Ron, hard work pays off, and hard work is always covered in frosting.
