At Keshava Radha Yoga, The Aim Is The State Of Meditation

By S. Mathur

With so many different yoga studios offering different styles of practice, it's important for students to find the one that they can relate to the most. At the eponymous Keshava Radha Yoga studio in Boca Raton, the style is Hatha Yoga and the emphasis is on meditation.

"The aim of Hatha Yoga practice is the state of Meditation as stated in one of the Yoga scriptures Hatha Yoga Pradipika," Radha said. "On this path to meditation, the side effects will be strength, flexibility and in general a healthy body, you will experience a much more relaxed mental state after the classes and would have a better capability to deal life's challenges."

Founders and owners Keshava and Radha have been teaching yoga since 1997 in various settings and opened the studio in New York City in 2012. They moved to Boca Raton FL in 2015 in search of a more peaceful lifestyle and the studio was reborn. They have lived and taught yoga in an ashram, and this gives them a deeply spiritual view of the practice. They share a love for Yoga, meditation, and self-inquiry. This forms the basis for the Hatha yoga practice at the studio, which uses the body to influence the mind.

"We encourage slow, meditative practice emphasizing breath and awareness, while creating physical and emotional balance, as well as strength and flexibility," she said. "We include Vinyasa (Flow), Asanas (Posture), and relaxation while using our rich postures and series vocabulary to fit the practice to the practitioners and not the practitioners to the practice. We dare to s l o w and also to stimulate our body so every practitioner is able to find their own individual limits and work from there."

The teacher training program at Keshava Radha Yoga also emphasizes the underlying philosophy and spiritual meaning of yoga. Interested students are advised to try out the Yoga classes for a while to be certain that this style suits them before signing up for the training courses.

"Our teacher's training course is a profound experience designed for those who are passionate about practicing yoga and understanding the philosophy behind it," Radha said. "It includes the study of Asana, Pranayama, meditation, relaxation, Anatomy and the art of adjustment. We also teach the Yoga Sutras, a deep perspective of Samkhya philosophy and our astral body as well as an over view of the Vedic tradition as the context of Yoga."

Graduates of the teacher training program carry the practice of Keshava Radha Yoga to different locations around the world, including New York City, Paris, Tokyo, and the Azores.
